Description:
The Baltimore Museum of Art is seeking a creative and dynamic individual to develop, implement, and evaluate all aspects of family and intergenerational learning at the Museum and in the community. The Manager of Family Learning is a newly created position that reflects the Museum’s commitment to delivering memorable and inspiring experiences with works of art to families throughout Baltimore. Working within a team-based environment, this position is responsible for initiating, designing, and presenting programs and interpretive materials that engage families in learning together. He or she collaborates with colleagues in education, curatorial, marketing and communications, membership, development, facilities, and visitor services to foster a seamless and integrated experience for family visitors and encourage repeat visitation. This position reports to the Director of Visitor Learning. Weekend work is required.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Visitor Learning to develop goals, strategies, and tactics for enhancing family and intergenerational learning at the Museum.
- Plan and oversee family programs including festival and community days, studio workshops, Family Tours, and Family Sundays.
- Write, design, and produce interpretive tools for families including hands-on learning resources and spaces, self-guiding materials, family packs, and family-focused audio tours.
- Teach or facilitate object-based, family-focused activities in the galleries, studio, and community.
- Recruit, train, and supervise family program volunteers, docents, contract staff, and studio instructors.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the museum to raise awareness, promote programs, develop content, and welcome and assist families.
- Design and implement evaluation tools to enhance the Museum’s understanding of how and what family visitors learn in the Museum, under the guidance of the Director of Visitor Learning.
- Develop a family advisory board to aid in the development and assessment of programs and resources.
- Nurture and sustain partnerships with individuals, schools, community organizations, and neighborhoods to cultivate new family audiences and sustain current ones.
- Create and maintain family learning budget.
Qualifications:
- Masters in Art History, Fine Art, Art Education, Museum Studies, or related field
- 5+ years museum education experience.
- Solid understanding or family and intergenerational learning, child development, and museum education theory and practice.
- Experience in family program development and management.
- Excellent object-based teaching and communication skills.
- Proven ability to design, write, and produce family interpretive materials.
- Strong knowledge of studio practices and production competency.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

The Director of Visitor Learning is a newly created position that reflects The Baltimore Museum of Art’s commitment to delivering memorable and inspiring experiences with works of art to a broad and diverse public. Reporting to the Deputy Director for Education, this position collaborates with colleagues in Marketing & Communication, Curatorial, Finance, Development, and Facilities and Operations to develop and implement museum goals and strategy. The Director of Visitor Learning supervises the Interpretation Manager, Manager of Docent and Tour Programs, Manager of Family Learning, and the Tour Coordinator, developing synergy across departmental areas.
This position is the leader on key education initiatives and reviews all departmental outputs to ensure they meet desired outcomes and learning objectives. The Director of Visitor Learning will oversee the conceptualization, design, and implementation of in-gallery and web-based interpretive tools. This position is responsible for designing and implementing an evaluation and research program with the goal of enhancing visitor learning and engagement with works of art. The ideal candidate will be a leader, collaborator, divergent thinker, innovator, and strategist.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies for ensuring that all education programs and resources meet best practices in the field and deliver the highest quality experience to all BMA visitors. Monitor departmental outputs—programs and resources—to ensure that they meet the highest standards in the field. Work closely with the Deputy Director for Education in conceptualizing programs and new initiatives.
- Supervise the Manager of Docent and Tour Programs, Interpretation Manager, Manager of Family Learning, and the Tour Coordinator. Oversee professional development of staff through the creation of customized learning opportunities.
- Serve as project leader for key departmental strategic initiatives. Administer timelines, resource allocation, and budgets.
- Oversee the production of in-gallery and web-based interpretive tools and strategies for the permanent collection and special exhibitions including hands-on learning resources and spaces, labels and other written materials, audio tours, and emerging technologies. Delegate projects as necessary.
- Design and implement an ongoing evaluation and research program to better understand how and what visitors learn in the museum. Document and share findings with museum staff and the museum field at large through conference presentations, articles, reports, white papers, and staff programs.
Qualifications:
- Masters in Art History, Education, or related field.
- 8+ years museum education experience.
- Proven track record as an excellent manager, leader, and strategist.
- Experience in museum evaluation and research, program development, and project management.
- A broad knowledge of current methodologies and the use of emerging technologies in museum education.
- Proven record of team development, collaboration, and leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills.

Background:
The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), founded in 1914, has a world-class collection of modern and contemporary art, and is recognized internationally for its comprehensive collection of works by 20th-century master Henri Matisse. It has an annual operating budget of $13 million, and an endowment of $70 million. The BMA is embarking on an exciting new era with the reintroduction of free admission. At this important time, the Museum seeks an experienced and resourceful Director of Membership. The Director of Membership reports to the Senior Director of Development and is an integral part of a comprehensive fundraising team made up of twelve dedicated individuals.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Membership is responsible for all aspects of the Museum's membership program comprised of 8,000 member households. This includes directing renewal, upgrade, and acquisition campaigns; cultivating members and attracting prospects through creative use of benefits, events, and promotions; and effective use of on-site sales.
The Director of Membership works with Senior Development staff to coordinate and strengthen donor participation at all levels, and collaborates extensively with the Marketing and Education departments. The Director of Membership develops and monitors membership and direct mail budgets; and supervises the Production Coordinator and Database Coordinator to ensure timely mailings, an up-to-date database, and accurate reports and analysis.
The education and qualifications for this role are:
- 4-year undergraduate degree
- 5 years successful membership-based fundraising
- Proven track record of innovative renewal strategies and direct mail campaigns
- Ability to supervise and motivate staff and volunteers
- Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment
- Excellent speaking and writing skills
- Thorough knowledge of office software, and fluency with development databases. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge is a definite plus

Custodian – Facilities Department
Responsibilities:
The Custodian will be responsible for various housekeeping duties including cleaning offices, hallways, and break, meeting, and rest rooms. S/he will lift and carry heavy boxes and/or objects. This candidate will complete other duties as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor.
Qualifications:
The successful Custodian will be friendly and detail-oriented. The candidate will have a passion for cleaning and serving people. S/he will be able to work both independently and on a team. The candidate will have a minimum high school degree or GED. A minimum of one year of custodial and customer satisfaction experience will be a plus.

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) is seeking Full Time Security Guards. These are full time positions, requiring a five-day work week including weekends. Overtime will be available during Museum events.
