Overview
The BMA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Curator and Department Head for African Art to join an 11-member curatorial team in an institution with both an impressive collection of African objects and a strong record of scholarship and major African art exhibitions.
Directing the Department for Arts of Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific Islands, the curator will oversee the BMA’s extensive collection of over 2,000 African objects including textiles.
Responsibilities
The curator’s first assignment represents a major opportunity, the formulation of plans for a new installation of the African collection, part of a current project for reinstallation of several major collections. This project is collaborative including colleagues in education as well as exhibition design and installation. The objective is to develop new approaches for display and interpretation based on the commitment of delivering memorable and inspiring experiences with works of art to a broad and diverse public.
S/he will work with a dedicated group of collectors, including the support group, The Friends of the Arts of Africa, The Pacific, and the Americas. Through exhibitions, public programs, and publications of scholarly significance, this curator will enhance a long tradition of commitment to the appreciation and study of African Art. S/he will build new and more diverse audiences and help connect the BMA to other arts and academic institutions in Baltimore.

Overview
The BMA is seeking a Custodian with 1-2 years of custodial experience in a commercial/institutional setting. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Custodian Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- The Custodian Supervisor works under the supervision of the Director of Facilities & Engineering.
- Supervises and oversees the daily activities of the Facilities Custodial Staff.
- Plans, schedules and participates in the day-to-day activities of the Custodial Department. Assigns staff to work for scheduled special events and museum fund raisers.
- Assists in custodial duties such as cleaning, setup/breakdown for special events during regular shift employee absences, vacation or as needed.
- Assists other museum departments with special needs as they pertain to Exhibitions, special functions and other events.
- Implements Floor and Carpet Maintenance Program and schedules various areas for regular maintenance as outlined in the Floor Maintenance Program schedule.
- Inspects the work of staff for completeness and adherence to museum standards.
- Trains new staff.
- Orders and maintains an inventory of frequently used materials and supplies.
- Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies and material safety data sheets (MSDS). Uses all chemicals and supplies as directed to perform cleaning and related activities.
- Inspects for unsafe equipment and/or working conditions and initiates and/or remedies such conditions.
- Assures compliance with the museums unique security procedures.
- Has the ability to use a step ladder up to 8 feet when required in work assignments.
- Assists the mechanics and other departments within the museum as the need arises.
- Responds to emergency situations as they arise.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Overview
The BMA is seeking a Custodian with 1-2 years of custodial experience in a commercial/institutional setting. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Custodian Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- The Custodian works under the supervision of the Lead Custodian.
- Maintain floors in an aesthetically pleasing manner; this will include mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and vacuuming.
- Maintain restrooms in a clean and sanitary condition. Assure proper stock levels are maintained.
- Regular maintenance of museum offices and conference rooms; this includes trash removal, dusting, polishing and vacuuming.
- Regular cleaning of lower exterior and interior glass
- Assists the designated porter in the implementation of the Floor Maintenance Program.
- Maintains stock levels in supply closets. Notifies Lead Custodian when inventory needs replenished.
- Inspects for unsafe equipment and or working conditions and initiates and or remedies such conditions.
- Assures compliance with the museums unique security procedures.
- Assists other departments within the museum as the need arises.
- Responds to emergency situations as they arise.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Visitor Services Associate (Full-Time, 35 hours/week)
Overview
The BMA seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Visitor Services Associate to ensure a positive and welcoming experience for BMA visitors and members. The ideal candidate will have impeccable communication and customer service skills and will be comfortable managing multiple priorities while working in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Providing exemplary customer service to BMA visitors and members
- Promoting repeat visitation, program participation, and Museum membership
- Selling tickets for museum programs, exhibitions, and special events
- Collecting visitor data and feedback
- Assisting visitors with parking-related processes
- Serving as a liaison between visitors and BMA colleagues
- Performing daily visitor services operations at the Box Office, Coat Check Room, and Information Desk
This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Visitor & Volunteer Services Manager in the Marketing & Communications Division. The incumbent will be scheduled to work 35 hours per week between the hours of 9:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 10:15 a.m.-6:15 p.m. on Saturdays & Sundays, with some additional evenings required.

Overview

Security Officer (Full Time Positions)
Overview
A successful security officer must be able to maintain museum security protocols while interacting with staff and visitors. The candidate will be responsible for preparing galleries for visitors, light housekeeping, observing/interacting with visitors, and reacting to emergency situations.
Having expertise in monitoring CCTV, Fire, Security and HVAC systems, and radio communications equipment is a plus. On the job training will be provided.

This position collaborates with colleagues across the museum to foster a seamless and integrated experience for family visitors and encourage repeat visitation. This position reports to the Director of Public Programs. Weekend work is required.

Internships at the BMA provide undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to become familiar with how museums work and contribute to specific aspects of museum activity. These valuable learning experiences help to inform students of the various careers that are possible in a museum environment as well as develop mentor relationships as they pursue educational and career goals.
