Director's Welcome
The BMA is about to embark on one of the most exciting projects of this decade. Thanks to a $10 million multi-year commitment from the State of Maryland as well as bond support from the City of Baltimore, the Museum is launching a three-year, $24 million renovation in spring 2011.
The renovation, expected to be completed in 2014, includes transforming the galleries for three major art collections: Contemporary, American, and African. New curatorial research, fresh educational perspectives, thoughtful design, and innovative technology will re-enliven the experience of visiting these outstanding collections.
Renovations to our lobby will improve how we welcome visitors and new amenities will make visiting the Museum more enjoyable. Two new roofs and a state-of-the-art building automation system will update the climate control, which is essential to the care of the 90,000 works of art in our world-class collection.
We expect the renovation will be completed in 2014, in time for the BMA’s 100th anniversary. What better way to celebrate the beginning of the Museum’s second hundred years?
Get ready now for the BMA of the future!
