This superb pair of Staffordshire ice pails, almost certainly derived from earlier Sèvres porcelains, represents the best in fine English earthenware. Embellished with gilt neoclassical figures on a rich copper-lustre ground, they numbered among the highlights of the lusterware collection assembled by Mary Louise Gutman.
