Michèle Van Hout LeBeau’s tapestry, depicting fishing boats dwarfed by the sun, exhibits the limited colors, simple forms, and lack of perspective advocated by Jean Lurçat, an influential French painter and textile artist. Lurçat revived tapestry in the mid-20th century by appealing to modern tastes, including those of donor Germaine Sharretts.
