National Trustee Bernice Barth is a dedicated steward of the extensive non-European collection formed by her late husband, the respected art dealer Arthur Barth. Having generously contributed hundreds of artworks to American museums since the 1980s, Mrs. Barth has given the BMA this strikingly elegant figure, which served as a container for kola nuts in a Yoruba family’s home in Nigeria.
