William Morris, the father of the Arts and Crafts Movement, began making hand-knotted carpets at Hammersmith, England in 1877. This example, purchased in London by Jean and Sydney Silber, passionate supporters of the Museum, exhibits Morris’s signature craftsmanship, use of natural and vegetal dyes, and two-dimensional graphic quality.
