Andy Warhol’s Alexander the Great is a colorful screenprint of the Macedonian conqueror, who, before his death at the age of 32 in 323 BC, had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world. The print has a special significance to National Trustee Sylvia de Cuevas, who gave it to the Museum in memory of her uncle Alexandre Iolas, a prominent art dealer who commissioned the Alexander the Great series from Warhol and gave the highly influential artist his first and last exhibitions.
