FoAW supports the presentation and growth of the BMA's important collections of decorative arts and American painting and sculpture. The group strives to enhance Members' appreciation and knowledge of art, and encourages Members to develop their own collections. Proceeds from FoAW dues and fundraising activities are used for the acquisition of outstanding examples of fine and decorative art, as well as the scholarly and educational activities of the Museum.
FoAW programs include:
- A lecture and reception series featuring nationally renowned scholars, curators, and dealers
- An Antiques Seminar study program offering Members exclusive access to private collections with tours by curators and connoisseurs
- Educational and study trips
- Social events held in local historic buildings and collectors' homes
- Opportunities to interact with curators from the Department of Decorative Arts and American Painting and Sculpture
