BMA Appoints New Curator of Contemporary Art

Doreen Bolger, Director of The Baltimore Museum of Art, has announced the appointment of Kristen Hileman as Curator of Contemporary Art and Department Head of this important collection. Currently Associate Curator at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, Hileman will begin her position at the BMA on November 2, 2009.

BMA Announces In A New Light: The Campaign for The Baltimore Museum of Art

The Trustees of The Baltimore Museum of Art today announced a $65 million philanthropic campaign—the most ambitious in the Museum’s 95-year history. To date, $40 million has been raised during the silent phase, placing the campaign more than halfway to its goal.

Designed in silver and gold by famed French jewelry design house Cartier, The Triple Crown Trophy is featured at the Museum along with some of the most important trophies in horseracing, such as The Belmont Stakes Plate, The Kentucky Derby Gold Cup, The Preakness Stakes Woodlawn Vase, and The Ascot Gold Cup.

BMA Receives Major Gift of Matisse Prints from The Pierre and Maria-Gaetana Matisse Foundation

The Baltimore Museum of Art today announced that its world-renowned collection of works by French artist Henri Matisse is expanding significantly with a major gift of 77 prints from The Pierre and Maria-Gaetana Matisse Foundation in New York. This promised gift comes from the collection of Pierre Matisse (1900-89), the artist’s son. The Matisse Foundation has also supported the Matisse: Painter as Sculptor exhibition that opens at the BMA on October 28. Press Release »
BMA Receives $5 Million Endowment Gift

The Baltimore Museum of Art announced today that it has received a $5 million gift from an anonymous donor to endow the position of the Museum’s Director. This important gift establishes the first permanent endowment fund for the Museum’s top executive, and is also the second largest individual gift in the BMA’s history.

Launch of Free Admission Proves a Resounding Success
May 9, 2007
The launch of free admission has been a resounding success for The Baltimore Museum of Art and the Walters Art Museum, with a combined attendance of 227,656 visitors from October 2006 through March 2007. During Free Fall Baltimore in October and November, the BMA had 44,700 visitors and the Walters had 39,194 visitors—both among the highest attendance recorded for those months during the past five years.
