Fabulous Finds This February
Our expanded Spring Shop opens February 12.
Cézanne and His Inspiration: Stop by after seeing the fascinating Cézanne and American Modernism exhibition to pick up a catalogue, a souvenir Cézanne mug, a favorite reproduction (we have grown particularly fond of a small framed view of Mont Sainte-Victoire by Marsden Hartley), or even a Cézanne-inspired baseball cap. The master’s iconic apples adorn scarves and ties in great colors.
Books: The first book devoted solely to Cézanne's impact on American art is now available at The BMA Shop. Cézanne and American Modernism features 190 spellbinding illustrations of paintings, watercolors, and photographs by Cézanne and the artists he inspired, including Man Ray, Max Weber, and Maurice Prendergast. Essays shed new light on Cézanne's influence on modernism and Abstract Expressionism. BMA Senior Curator Katy Rothkopf coauthored the 376-page catalogue with Montclair Art Museum Chief Curator Gail Stavitsky.
More Books: Once you’ve perused the catalogue you will want to learn more about Cézanne. We are nose deep in Conversations with Cézanne, a fascinating collection of texts by his contemporaries that illuminates his philosophy of art. On a lighter note, check out the entertaining novel, Cézanne’s Quarry, which casts the master as a suspect in a murder near his beloved Mont Sainte-Victoire!
