The BMA Lexington Market, the Baltimore Museum of Art’s first branch location, opened to the public on June 27th, 2019 in the historic Lexington Market, located near the arcade in the East Market. The BMA Lexington Market offers opportunities for visitors to create and show artistic responses, tell personal stories in video or audio that will be part of an ongoing archive, and read from and/or contribute to a non-circulating library. Every season, BMA Lexington Market will focus on a new theme that acts as an umbrella for programs, activities, and events presented in partnership with other organizations and individuals. Admission is always free. For more information follow us @bmalexingtonmarket, or reach out to lexingtonmarket@artbma.org.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the BMA Lexington Market had to shut its doors along with the entire Lexington Market on March 14th, 2020 to help stop the spread of the virus. As Baltimore City has slowly phased towards reopening, the BMA Lexington Market began to operate on July 31st, as a distribution site for Free Family Sunday at Home, a new initiative from the Baltimore Museum of Art in response to the needs of Baltimore families during the pandemic. Each kit is complete with art materials and educational resources for youth and adults to work on together, as well as ways to connect with the BMA through our online offerings such as virtual tours of our galleries, workshops, artist talks, and much more.
The BMA Lexington Market distributes art kits every Friday from 11 – 1 pm, with the kits changing monthly to new activities. As always at the BMA Lexington Market, these kits are always free.
