The fret design is frequently found on 'O'odham baskets. This simple element can be elaborated into more than one hundred forms. Modifications to, and combinations of elements produce unique variations. Weavers rarely make two baskets of identical design even when specifically asked to make a duplicate. The photograph illustrates five variations of the fret design in shallow bowls. Photo: R. H. Peebles, in B. Robinson, The Basket Weavers of Arizona, 1954
