Whistler made his drawings on special paper supplied by his printer, Thomas Way, that allowed them to be printed the right way round once transferred to the lithographic stone. Their evanescence makes them seem almost like after-images, and they remain among the sparest works Whistler created. This view of Charing Cross Bridge is part of a series of transfer lithographs that would be Whistler’s last views of the Thames.
Collection stamp of Gen. Lawrason Riggs on back.
