Object Number 1981.202
Large hollow fragment of figural ceramic sculpture or possibly an architectural element. Wide oval hole at the top of the head indicates that a headdress piece has broken off. Smaller hole at the base of the neck suggests the head was attached to a body. The face of this example is expediently modeled to form sharp, protruding eyebrows, a left-leaning beak-like nose (or warped?) minus the proper right nostril, and deep horizontal incisions for the eyes and mouth. The lips, cheeks, and chin are full and fleshy. The ears are oversized and flange-like. The entire piece is covered with a white chalky slip.
