Object Number 1972.1
The daughter of a wealthy Brazilian family living in Paris, France, Yvonne Landsberg posed for several portraits by Matisse in 1914. Unlike his daring and abstract painting of her from the same year—which did not meet with her family’s approval—this more conventional composition features Landsberg wearing a charming, flowered hat as she gazes out at the viewer.
