Based on Manet's painting, Olympia, 1863 (Musée d'Orsay; Rouart and Wildenstein 69). First of two designs for a printed version of Olympia to be published in the pamphlet accompanying the 1867 exhibition at the Avenue de l'Alma, "Émile Zola, Éd. Manet: Étude biographique et critique (Paris: Dentu, 1867)". This version was not published (see 1996.48.5153 for published version).
