This work depicts George A. Lucas' country retreat at Boissise-Le-Bertrand, not far from Barbizon. Recording the quiet banks of the Seine, this painting shows the influence of Delpy’s teacher, Charles-François Daubigny, who painted similar river views. On occasion, Delpy also worked at Fontainebleau, producing both intimate glimpses of the depths of the forest as well as more expansive landscapes.
