Among the Gola people, the spirit of the women's Sande Association is thought to be male whereas elsewhere it is female. Nevertheless, the same style of mask prevails, often topped by carved horns. The mask is worn with a black fiber costume falling to the ankles, with cloth covering the hands and the feet. Amulets are attached for power.
