Towards the end of his career, Vlaminck entered an expressive, more realist phase in which he painted landscapes and still lifes using subdued tones and variegated brushwork. In this elegant work, flowers in a vase are in full bloom, some reflecting the green of the foliage. Depth is achieved by the placement of the arrangement on an angled tabletop that recedes into the background. A soft light falls from right to left, gently illuminating the simple setting.
